Herbalist collects N4m from driver for favour charm

The Zone 2 Police Command has arrested a herbalist, Abiodun David , for allegedly defrauding a cab driver of about N 4m . The police said the victim , Adebayo Omoniyi, had been introduced to the suspect by a friend , who claimed that he ( David) had made charms for him which were effective . David was alleged to have promised to make a charm that would boost Omoniyi’ s transport business and make wealthy people in the society to favour him . However, after paying the money, which was for concoctions and other ingredients, the 38- year -old reportedly did not notice any improvement in his fortune , and when he challenged the suspect for a refund, his request was turned down. He subsequently reported a case of fraud to the police at the zone 2 command , leading to the arrest of the suspect at his shrine in Atan, Sango, Ogun State , last week Thursday. Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff The Supreme Court , on Monday , reserved its judgment on the appeal concerning the protracted Peoples Democratic Party leadership tussle between the National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff , and the sacked National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Ahmed Makarfi . An apex court ’ s five - man bench , led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria , Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Monday , adjourned for judgment on a date to be announced later . Justice Onnoghen announced the adjournment after the warring leadership factions of the party adopted their court processes and made brief oral arguments on Monday . The students have expressed fears that the increment could have serious security implications for the state and the Niger Delta region. The students of the Bayelsa government-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) at Amasoma are lamenting the hike in school fees and other levies in the varsity. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some students described the increment as outrageous, insensitive and anti-masses. Many have reportedly predicted that many indigent students would drop out of school as their parents and guardians would be unable to afford it. Nigeria Fidelity Bank’s shareholders harp on CBN penalty

SHAREHOLDERS of Fidelity Bank Plc have frowned at the high penalty fee imposed on banks for committing various offences by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, even as they approved the bank’s proposed N4.1 billion dividend for the financial year 2017. The shareholders, at the 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Lagos approved the N4.1 billion dividend, which translated to 14 kobo per 50 kobo share and ratified all resolutions put before them at the meeting. Speaking, the shareholders’ associations’ leaders such as Mr. Boniface Okezie, Sir Sola Abodunrin, Mr. Alex Adio, Sir Sunny Nwosu and others commended the performance of the bank for the financial year under review, but tasked the board to declare interim dividend once the bank performs well in the first half of 2017. UBA Plc: Q1’17 result puts bank on good year start

FOR one week running investors in the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, have remained bullish on the shares of United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) on the account of its impressive first quarter 2017 (Q1’17) results announcement previous week. Consequently, the bank’s stock ticked up about 18 percentage point increase in returns year-to-date (YtD), as the share price closed last weekend at N6.27, up from N5.50 pre-result announcement. YtD as at last weekend stood at 80.7%, one of the highest in the stock market. The bank released its unaudited Q1 2017 results, wherein gross earnings grew 37% year-on-year (y-o-y) with pre-tax profit expanding 41% y-o-y. The profit after tax, PAT, also grew by double-digit y-o-y (+62%) to N22.8 billion. The impressive results came on the backdrop of a 43% y-o-y growth in pre-provision profits to N72.6 billion. He confronted him , and then flew into a rage when his dad told him he had forgotten to add fish sauce . Sakdinon grabbed an empty bottle and hit his father over the head , before slapping his 66-year - old mother Pa when she tried to intervene . Pa ran for help while her son launched a brutal and frenzied attack on Ngor with a kitchen knife on Thursday morning. The EU said this in a statement by the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the EU Commission, Federica Mogherini. The European body said it would continue to support the Federal Government in the fight against terrorism. It urged the Federal Government to ensure that not only are the remaining girls rescued, but the abductors must also be brought to book. The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation , Mohammed Adoke ( SAN) , says operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission raided the home of his younger brother, Bashir , in Kogi State during the wee hours of Sunday. The raid , it was learnt, was part of investigations into the $1. 3bn oil deal involving Malabu Oil and Gas Limited and oil giant , Shell , which was brokered by Adoke in 2011 when he was the AGF . Adoke said this in a statement by his spokesman, Victor Akhidenor. The former AGF, however , stated that nothing was found during the raid which he described as illegal . The senior advocate said the operatives of the anti - graft agency assaulted some occupants of the house when they did not find any dollars in the building.
