Hints on how to maximize one's potential as youth.

There have been many discourse made on this topic by many scholars and well learned people in the society. But before proceeding on this subject matter, i will like to make simple exposition on what we call potential. Literally speaking, potential means possibility. Potential means a quality or attribute that tends to be manipulated in the future. Potential is an hidden gold buried in man's mind. It is an abstract treasure that needs tutored mind to find. Potential is a social commodity that was made free to all consumer of which use is a function of it's user ability to put into judicious utilization. Potential is dynamic. Dynamic in the sense that it is a function of what inspires i.e. without inspiration potential tends to be look warm and lying fallow. There must be something that ignites the potential. Because for every form of possibilities there must be things to hold unto which definitely must have a start. Then since potential is a function what ignites, then what

AFRICA’S CONFORMING GENERATION

One of the greatest figures we were introduced to during the Fresher’s Orientation as a fresh undergraduate in OAU was Late George Iwilade; whose legacy will always stand out, as a man of valour who fought against cultism. But one thing also stands out, his pseudonym, ‘AFRICA’. Why was he called Africa? I asked and discovered that Mr Iwilade got that name as a result of the trend he began in his faculty, Law. Law students have a policy of putting on a mandatory uniform of ‘white and black’ to lectures, but Mr Iwilade was known to always put on African attires to lectures, thereby earning the name ‘Africa’. Investigating the history of this mandatory tradition, I asked a couple of law students why they wore white and black. I got unsatisfactory answers: ‘’That’s how it has always been’’, ‘’They want us to get used to the uniform before we became lawyers’’, ‘’That’s how the English system did it and told us to do it’’. This leads to more questions; Why can’t we learn or prac

LAUTECH Students are demanding for a takeover by the Nigerian government

Image
Since the State governments aren't interested in them anymore, perhaps the Federal Government will do better. Frustrated students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology took their protests to the National assembly, demanding a takeover of their school. Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, has for most of its lifetime been managed by the Osun and Oyo States University. Sole-management was with Oyo State until Osun was carved out of it. The students' demand to the House of Assembly was for the Federal Government to takeover the management and funding of the University. So far, the two parent state governments have done a horrible job at it. In fact, industrial action has kept them in the same level since 2015. To put it clearly, a 400-level student in 2015, is still a 400 level student in 2017 The Oyo State Government very recently commissioned its Technical University in Ibadan. While Osun State has its own State University. "They've left us hanging,

Read the message she shared on her page: "I GOT MARRIED LIKE I PROMISED TO IN 2017. Yes, I got MARRIED to someone in prison. This is my FIRST SU

Dammy Krane Released From Jail After Meeting Bail Conditions

Image
Nigerian pop singer, Dammy Krane, has been released from a United States jail. The singer was released after meeting his bail conditions set at $7,500. According to an update from the Miami-Dade County Criminal Justice Online System, Krane, who was earlier arrested for credit card fraud, pleaded not guilty to the charges and demanded a trial by jury. He also demanded the option of a waiver pre-trial conference. Following his appeal, the court has fixed Krane’s hearing for June 23, 2017.

There should be no pity for the singer

Image
Celebrities who commit crime should not get an ounce of pity from the public. The narrative that Dammy Krane was a product of his environment should not be entertained. There are people of the opinion that the pressure to appear successful » by all means made the singer crack. Pressure makes diamonds and it can burst pipes. What you have inside will come out when life throws a few curve balls at you. Dammy Krane's incarceration for alleged grand theft among other things shouldn't be blamed on the society. Yes, Nigeria might not be an ideal society- there is no such thing- but that does not give every Tom, Dick & Harry, the liberty to rob people of their money and identity. There is no excuse under the sun that makes it right to be involved in crime. If you end up doing a crime, chances are you wanted to be a criminal all along. Don't blame Nigeria for your weak moral constitution. Crime appeals to a criminal the same way the deep calls unto the deep. You attract
