Herbalist collects N4m from driver for favour charm

The Zone 2 Police Command has arrested a herbalist, Abiodun David , for allegedly defrauding a cab driver of about N 4m . The police said the victim , Adebayo Omoniyi, had been introduced to the suspect by a friend , who claimed that he ( David) had made charms for him which were effective . David was alleged to have promised to make a charm that would boost Omoniyi’ s transport business and make wealthy people in the society to favour him . However, after paying the money, which was for concoctions and other ingredients, the 38- year -old reportedly did not notice any improvement in his fortune , and when he challenged the suspect for a refund, his request was turned down. He subsequently reported a case of fraud to the police at the zone 2 command , leading to the arrest of the suspect at his shrine in Atan, Sango, Ogun State , last week Thursday. Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff The Supreme Court , on Monday , reserved its judgment on the appeal concerning the protracted Peoples Democratic Party leadership tussle between the National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff , and the sacked National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Ahmed Makarfi . An apex court ’ s five - man bench , led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria , Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Monday , adjourned for judgment on a date to be announced later . Justice Onnoghen announced the adjournment after the warring leadership factions of the party adopted their court processes and made brief oral arguments on Monday . The appeal , heard by the apex court was filed by the sacked caretaker committee of the party led by Makarfi . Emir Sanusi lamido Sanusi The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday stopped the investigation of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II , over allegations of misappropriation of funds belonging to the Kano Emirate Council . The Assembly ’ s decision to end the investigation followed a letter from the state Governor , Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, which the Speaker , Mallam Kabiru Rurum , read at plenary. Ganduje said the halting of the investigation was necessitated by the need to respect the intervention of some notable Nigerians on the issue. He named the notable Nigerians as religious leaders , traditional rulers, former presidents, the Arewa Consultative Forum , state governors and other respected Nigerians. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources , Dr . Ibe Kachikwu , has vowed to resign if the country fails to attain self -sufficiency in the refining of petroleum products by 2019. Kachikwu , who spoke as a guest on BBC Hard Talk in London on Monday , also stated that he recently signed an agreement with the international oil giant , Agip , for the firm to build a refinery in Nigeria . When asked to state the year that Nigeria would be self -sufficient in refining petroleum products, Kachikwu replied , “ I have said 2019, and that is the target that I gave . ” On whether he would leave office if he failed to achieve the target , the minister replied , “ Yes, of course.
