Negotiations ongoing to free other Chibok girls, Buhari confirms

The International Federation of Female Lawyers , Nigeria chapter , also known as FIDA Nigeria , on Thursday, commended the management of the Federal Road Safety Corps for recalling its Rivers State Sector Commander , Mr . Ayodele Kumapayi , to Abuja .
Kumapayi reportedly cut off some female officers ’ branded hair with a pair of scissors as a disciplinary measure.
In a statement by its National President /Country Vice -President , Mrs . Inime Aguma , the group said the immediate recall of Kumapayi , pending investigation into the incident , was commendable .
The photos , which started trending late on Monday , show a man identified as Kumapayi , using a pair of scissors to cut the braided hair of some FRSC female officials .
The incident reportedly happened during the morning parade when Kumapayi went round to inspect his officers and men.
Reacting to the development , FIDA Nigeria stated that while it was not against the disciplining of erring officers , doing so in a manner capable of undermining the dignity of women was unacceptable.
The statement added , “ Whilst FIDA Nigeria recognises the essence of discipline and adherence to rules of professional ethics within professional structures , we condemn in strongest possible terms , acts such as that executed by the Sector Commander which have the effect of undermining the dignity of women. ”
Meanwhile, a Non Governmental Organisation , FAME Foundation, has called on the Federal Government to sanction Kumapayi for gender harassment and abuse of office .
It flayed Kumapayi for cutting the hair of his junior female officers, noting that he went too far in the exercise of his power .
The group , in a statement on Thursday in Abuja by its Coordinator, Aderonke Bello , said penalising the sector commander would serve as a deterrent to other men who delighted in harassing their female subordinates .
It said , “ The government must investigate this matter as quickly as possible and bring him to justice . He must be penalised within the rule of law because if he is spared , other men like him , who have no respect for women, may also harass women officers who are diligently serving the nation . ”
