Bore hole water Mrs Elizabeth Ugoh, the Deputy Director, Water Quality Control and Sanitation, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, stated this in Abuja on Thursday. She said the ministry was working with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), to enforce the National Standard for Drinking Water Quality toward ensuring the quality of water being supplied to the public. “The ministry is calling on all Nigerians drinking water from borehole and other sources to regularly test their water in laboratories across the country to reduce consuming unwholesome water. “We are also calling on borehole drillers to abide by the National Drilling Code of Practice”, she added. According to her, six new laboratories are being constructed in the six geo-political zones by the Federal Government to improve water quality and standard in the country. WAEC logo.         According to an official of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), among blind candidates, one of the most common examination malpractice was collusion. Frances Iweha-Onukwu, who is the head of test administration of WAEC in Nigeria, revealed this in a press interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN), on Wednesday, December 28, in Lagos. Mrs Iweha-Onukwu explaining the reasons why cheating by collusion was rampant among the blind students,, said it could be that the candidates were usually not well equipped individually for the examinations. If we recall the institution has been on lock and key as a result of industrial action embarked upon by the Unions of the institution over non- payment of Earned Academic Allowances from 2012/2013 session till date, poor funding of the school, lack of infrastructure, poor teaching environment and non payment of subventions from the two owner states of Oyo and Osun for over 20months. RELIEF is coming the way of motorists and commuters plying the busy but deplorable Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene federal road following the flag-off of palliative repairs on the road by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA. Greater part of the Abia end of the road is ridden with dangerous and deadly potholes. The condition of the road got so bad that motorists abandoned it and opted to use rural roads which often pitched them against youths in the rural communities, who demanded tolls for the damage the vehicles inflict on their fragile community roads. Some vehicles were trapped in some bad portions for weeks and months during the rainy season due to the deplorable condition of the roads. Ikot-Ekpene-Aba road Worried by this, communities in the area through their representatives in the National Assembly, Senator Theodore Orji and Sam Onuigbo, cried for help and sent a ‘Save -Our-Soul’ message to the Federal Government to rescue them from the hardship they pass through on the road.
