Youth warned against same sex marriage
Port Harcourt – Nigeria`s Consul General in South Africa, Amb. Uche Ajulu-Okeke, has called for sensitisation of youths on the dangers of homosexual practices and same sex marriage.
Ajulu-Okeke made the call on telephone on the sidelines of World Congress on Families and Marriage in Cape town, South Africa.
The ambassador, who was part of Nigeria`s delegation to the Congress, said it had become necessary to educate Nigerian youths on the need to resist the temptation of being lured into homosexuality as a means of survival.
“ The Congress is very important for our social and youth development in Nigeria. Our youths should be sensitised on the dangers of homosexuality.
“ Many Nigerians youths, especially those involved in illegal economic migration, have fallen prey to homosexual practices.
“Many Nigerian youths abroad are now becoming gay because of economic inducement, either to legalise their documents or to get jobs and they bring back diseases like HIV/AIDS back to the country,” she said.
Ajulu-Okeke said that the conference applauded Nigeria because of her anti-gay law and recognition of marriage between man and woman.
“ The congress issued the Cape Town declaration on marriage and Nigeria and was well represented.
“ Nigerians should have a sense of pride that we say it the way God ordained it, that marriage is between man and woman,” she said.
Also speaking, Dr Theresa Okafor, Regional Representative for World Congress for Family, said marriage was good because it determines the sustainability of the society and economy.
“ Marriage guarantees the continuity of any society . Where we do not have marriage, there will be no children and it affects the population of a country,” she said.
Okafor said the congress was aimed at promoting marriage, united families and development of the society.
